The Healing by Lydia Shu
He gives her nothing
"And you're such an annoying fickle,
you want this for two moments
and dump it in the next
For the last time, no"
How could one stand it?
"Perhaps I was wed to you on a whim
Perhaps I wanted it for just two moments
and have been regretting
ever since"
The words cut
Tension is in the air
She moves to the couch
And he the dining chair
While I sit and eat
Head lowered gaze down
Waiting
For movement
Moments later,
slightly more than two
He moves to the kitchen
Silently
and takes up a knife
It is huge
An almost-chopper
He wields it and brings it down
On a watermelon sweet juicy and ripe
"Wife,
have a slice of watermelon
will you?"
The sitting room reverberates
with the silence which ensues
And all breath hangs in the air
....
"Alright"
